School parties can enjoy a full day's activities, including riding behind a steam locomotive, visiting the engine and carriage sheds and taking a walk in Causey Woods with a visit to the famous arch.
As the railway is run by volunteers, groups can be accompanied by people who are not only knowledgeable, but enthusiastic about their subject ... without being railway anoraks!
There are toilet facilities at Andrews House Station, Marley Hill carriage shed and East Tanfield station and of course their set of vintage carriages provide a huge umbrella should it rain! Hot drinks can be provided for staff in the Refreshment Room.
The railway site is open daily. Term time steam trains operate on Thursday, 8th March 2018, Thursday 12th July 2018 and Thursday 8th November 2018.
Steam trains also operate every Sunday and Bank Holiday throughout the year, including Saturday and Thursday during the school summer holidays.
