Legends of Industry Gala

Tanfield Railway's Legends of Industry gala on Friday 14th, Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th June 2019 will be an unforgettable steam event with sights, and sounds, not to be missed plus all manner of attractions for all the family!

Now in it's 13th year, our Legends of Industry gala will welcome G.W.R No.813 as star guest courtesy of the Severn Valley Railway and GWR 813 Preservation Fund. To find out more click here.

We’re bringing a true legend of the North East coalfield back to the region … Great Western Railway No. 813. To mark 85 years since Backworth Collieries first brought the locomotive to Northumberland, No. 813 will be starring in our Legends of Industry steam gala on June 14, 15 and 16 alongside our own National Coal Board No. 49 – a pairing not seen in more than a decade. For the weekend No. 813 will regain the appearance it had when it first arrived at Backworth, complete with No. 12 on the cab sides. Dozens of second hand steam locomotives made their way from the Great Western to the North East coalfield during the 1930s and the visit of No. 813 will allow us to celebrate the role they played in the region’s most famous industry for more than 30 years. Don’t miss your chance to ride behind No. 813 and see her back at the head of a coal train once more.
