The railway operates trains on Sundays and Bank Holidays from 18th February 2024 to 31st October 2024, plus Thursdays and Saturdays during the school summer holidays. Yes, the railway is dog friendly and we welcome dogs free of charge on our trains and cafes. We kindly ask that dogs are kept on a lead at all times and do not sit on the carriage seats.

The railway offers various accessibility options. Accessible toilets are available at Andrews House station, East Tanfield station and Marley Hill carriage shed. Our wheelchair accessible compartment is usually available when our trains are operating, however due to the nature of the vintage railway carriage there could be the dd occasion when this isn’t available. We recommend you email [email protected] to ensure it will be available for your visit.
If a disabled visitor requires a carer during their visit, then the carer travels free of charge but needs to book a carer ticket. The disabled visitor will require an age appropriate ticket. We may ask for proof of being a carer when you visit – please bring some with you on the day.

This ticket allows unlimited travel on the Tanfield Railway for 12 months from the date of purchase.
For a one-off price, you can enjoy train rides along the world’s oldest railway for 1 year from the time of purchase, including day time events. Tanfield Unlimited Tickets are not transferable and not valid for premium rate train travel, evening events, Halloween and Christmas events.
