TANFIELD RAILWAY MAP

SUNNISIDE STATION

This is the railway’s northern terminus. Take time out here to watch the locomotives run round, or take a short stroll back to Andrews House station along the Tanfield Railway path.

ANDREWS HOUSE STATION

Enjoy this rural station and picnic area set in a pleasant heather filled cutting. Purchase your tickets here, browse around the well stock gift shop, enjoy hot and cold refreshments, or just watch the trains go by from the picnic area or platforms.

Free car park, and toilet facilities including accessible toilet and baby changing unit available.

MARLEY HILL

The engineering and restoration base of the railway, including the world’s oldest working engine shed, built in 1854, which also contains a vintage workshop, forge and wheel lathe. Take a close look at steam engines in their natural surroundings, being maintained and restored by our skilled volunteer engineers. The sights, sounds and smells of steam are alive and well here so expect the odd spot of oil and soot.

Learn about industrial railways and find out more about some of our locomotives and rolling stock in Marley Hill museum, opposite the engine shed. Tuck in to some tasty refreshments and browse around our gift shop, open most operating days.

Free car park, and toilet facilities including accessible toilet and baby changing unit available.

CAUSEY ARCH STATION

Marvel at the world’s oldest railway bridge, built in 1725, located adjacent to Causey Arch station. A superb starting point for a variety of walks around this attractive wooded valley, including the Waggonway Walk to East Tanfield station.

EAST TANFIELD STATION

The southern terminus of the line and the former site of East Tanfield colliery. Purchase tickets here, visit the Tea Rooms, browse around the gift shop and take a look in our carriage shed to find out more about the history of the railway.
