Kick off the heritage season with a spectacular Spring Railway Gala at Tanfield Railway! Taking place over the weekend of Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th May 2026, this event brings the sights, sounds and smells of a working industrial railway to life.

Heritage action is guaranteed as the railway bursts into life with an intensive timetable of lovingly restored locomotives from our home fleet and a soon to be announced special guest locomotive.

Join us for an unforgettable weekend as we showcase a visiting locomotive, Victorian carriages, demonstration freight trains and an intensive timetable that will bring steam train travel to life. Whether you’re a railway enthusiast, history lover, or simply looking for a fun family day out, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!
