Join us for our 300th Birthday Celebrations!
Join us on the 19th and 20th July for as we celebrate 300 years of railway history – making us the world’s oldest railway still in operation. This landmark event is more than a celebration of trains – it’s a tribute to the North East’s ground-breaking role in shaping the modern world through industrial innovation and transport.
What’s on:
- Steam train rides operating throughout the weekend, offering a nostalgic journey on the world’s oldest railway.
- Get toe tapping to tome tunes at East Tanfield Station and Andrews House with live music from Kiddars Luck (Saturday) and traditional folk music on (Saturday and Sunday).
- Hear the stories of coal mining heritage with a display of traditional mining banners in East Tanfield Carriage Shed.
- Let your little ones get creative with steam power and gravity demonstrations (Sunday).
- Hear all about the industrial heritage of the North East from Rob Langham – Railway Historian at Andrews House (Saturday).
- Step aboard A16 brake-van for a trip from a “Guards Eye View” of the railway (Sunday).
- Every Child visiting East Tanfield Station or Marley Hill Welcome Building will receive a Tanfield300 flag, sticker and Edmondson ticket, as well as a Tanfield300 birthday card to customize.
