Blacksmithing Experience

Step into the atmospheric, historic surroundings of the Marley Hill Engine Shed at Tanfield Railway and experience the ancient art of blacksmithing.

This brand-new experience offers you a rare chance to slow down, connect with a traditional heritage craft, and create something truly meaningful with your own two hands. Under the watchful eye and expert guidance of a skilled blacksmith, you will work directly at the engine shed forge to heat, shape, and finish your very own unique piece to take home at the end of the session. We recommend bringing your camera… and a water bottle, as it’s warm by that forge!

Dates and Session Times

We are running exclusive sessions on the following dates:

• Wednesday, 22nd July
• Wednesday, 5th August

Daily Session Times:

• Morning Session: 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
• Afternoon Session: 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Pricing and Group Info

• Price: £45 per person
• Group Size: Up to 10 participants per session.
• Pre-booking advised.

Please note: This is a collaborative group experience, meaning you will be sharing the forge and learning alongside other experience holders.

Terms and Conditions (Important Info)

Before booking, please ensure all participants meet the following safety and physical requirements:

• Age Limit: This workshop is for ages 14 years and over.
• Supervision: Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a participating or supervising adult.
• Height Requirement: Participants must be a minimum height of 4ft 5in (135cm) to safely reach and operate the equipment.
• Physical Fitness: Blacksmithing is a physical activity. You must be able-bodied and capable of lifting reasonably heavy objects and handling tools safely.
• Experiences are non refundable or transferable.
